Thanks for dropping in on ColorMeLocal.  I hope you will stay a while and that you will enjoy listening to our conversations.  ColorMeLocal is a podcast featuring local artisan businesses that help build relationships and community through their care and expertise.  I find these places all around the country, so I hope you are able to find some new places of interest for you to explore either in your home city or a city you visit.  Ultimately, I hope this blog and podcast will help to spark curiosity and encourage you to seek out new places and people.

The name ColorMeLocal came to me 4 years ago when the notion of starting a blog about local businesses first presented itself to me (see next paragraph for more explanation).  The idea has evolved over the years to become what I am pursuing now in the podcasts.  An artist might start a painting through a rough sketch only with a pencil.  Similarly, we enter new environments as rough sketches, touched by the past but not yet by the city or our surroundings.  As we explore and invest ourselves in different parts of the city, we start to be “colored” and “textured” by the characters around us.  Color adds depth and interest to paintings, and likewise, as we are colored by our experiences, we begin to have a new depth to our personalities and conversations, which in turn reflects the “colors” of our cities.  Hence the name, ColorMeLocal.

I began to think about starting a blog featuring these places when I found Local Coffee, a San Antonio coffee shop that became a haven for me when I was working in home health as a Speech Language Pathologist.  I frequently had reports to write after work hours and would retreat to Local Coffee to complete them and other paperwork.  From the friendly staff who recognize repeat customers to the care and time in preparing the coffee, it welcomed me and others to relax and breathe.

I was eager to share this place with friends and thought about other local spots that provided unique flavors to our everyday existence.  It also made me aware of the community that can be developed when supporting local businesses.  It nurtures trust and friendship with our neighbors, something that, if we are not careful, could slip away in this digital age.

It is my goal to be “colored” by local artisan businesses, whose owners naturally seem to foster collaboration, creative thinking, hard work, and community.  I hope you enjoy your time spent with me and the eclectic businesses I find.  =)cml_logo-2
